ビーガンの「七面鳥」
Vegan Turkey!
オーブンから出て来たばかりのビーガンの「七面鳥」...
This is how it looks after being in the oven for an hour...
先月の感謝祭に、以前から興味津々だったビーガンの「七面鳥」を食べることができました。毎年感謝祭になると、コリンの会社は、各社員に放飼いで育てられた七面鳥を丸ごと一羽プレゼントするという伝統があります（太っ腹な会社なのです）。もちろん、私達のようなビーガンやベジタリアン社員のファミリーのことも考えて、ビーガンの「七面鳥」も取り寄せてくれます。 ということで、今年はビーガンの「七面鳥」を頂きました。
大豆が主な原料のビーガンの「七面鳥」ですが、オーブンで1時間も焼くという結構、手間のかかるもの。もちろん、詰め物（stuffing）やソース（gravy）も付いてきます。歯触りは、日本のはんぺん！まずくはないが、おいしくもないという、とても微妙な味。カナダの感謝祭（カナダは10月）で七面鳥を食べ終えて来たコリンの両親も、初めて味合うビーガンの「七面鳥」に大喜び。このホリデーシーズン、友人や家族を招いてディナーを食べる時、皆で一緒に試してみると楽しいかもしれません。来年の感謝祭は...迷わずサーモンを選びます（笑）。ビーガンの「七面鳥」の詳細はこちら。
We had our first vegan turkey for American Thanksgiving dinner. Just like many of you, we always wondered what it tastes like. Colin's company gives out a free range turkey to each employee (the company's very generous Thanksgiving tradition). They also think about their vegetarian and vegan families, and have vegan turkeys ready for families like ours. This year, we decided to take one home and give it a try.
Although it is made with soybeans, you still need to bake this "bird" in the oven for an hour. It comes with vegan stuffing and gravy. You probably won't mind the first slice. The texture reminded me of Japanese hanpen (slightly rubbery but very soft sponge). I wouldn't say it's bad, but I didn't want to eat the second slice. I will definitely serve salmon for our Thanksgiving dinner next year. We had a lot of fun trying this vegan turkey with Colin's parents from Canada.
